Making Nesting Dolls (Matryoshka) Using a CNC Wood Lathe

This video demonstrates how a CNC wood lathe processes Matryoshka dolls.

The Matryoshka doll consists of two parts: the head and the base, both cut from the same block of wood. The doll's external profile and interlocking grooves are turned using lathe cutting tools, while the hollowing operation is performed with a boring bar, completing the woodworking process.

Although CNC lathe machining may appear deceptively simple, precision control has always been a challenge when using traditional manual lathes, heavily relying on the operator's skill and experience. When machining such products with a CNC wood lathe, the entire process can be completed in a single clamping by optimizing the machining sequence, making it efficient, convenient, and highly consistent.
